How Movers Keep Your Assets Safe During an Office Move

Moving offices can be an exciting time! But someone’s going to be responsible not only for planning and managing it — but for ensuring that all your critical assets make it to the new office safe and in working order. Confidential client information contained in printed paperwork Computer equipment employees rely on to do their jobs Tools and materials that crucial work can’t get done without It’s one thing for a table to get lost in a move. It’s another thing entirely when staff show up and physically cannot do their jobs: when information they need is gone, when the IT infrastructure is incomplete — or when the office is simply not fully unpacked because things got mixed up. All this is why you need the help of a professional mover. Before Your Office Move, Take a Full InventoryThe only way you’re going to be sure that everything makes it through your office move is to know precisely what you expect to see on the other side. So, take a responsible inventory of everything. You don’t necessarily need to account for every single pen, but you do want to be able to check off your critical assets. If losing an item would cause you significant harm should it be damaged or get lost, make particular note of it and make sure your mover understands your expectations. Prioritize what you'll need to unpack immediately versus what can wait, and have these assets easily accessible.Find a Mover That Does Box CodingYou don’t just want a mover that will get your boxes to the new office and call it a day. You’ll want one that cares about doing the job well — getting the boxes to the right rooms.By effectively labelling ahead of time, your mover can move your boxes to the places you’ll need to unpack them. That’s a lot of time saved shifting them around after the day, and it’s also going to help you confirm that your critical assets have made it to the right place — because you already know where you’ll be looking for them. You Can’t Work With Just Any MoverResidential moves are one thing for a moving company to do, but just because a company’s gotten good at moving the contents of homes doesn’t mean they’re going to understand the unique concerns of commercial moves. After all, a household doesn’t operate at all like a business — downtime may be annoying, but it’s rarely having a direct effect on the ability to generate revenue. When every hour you’re down is money lost, you need to work with a mover who understands that slow or unsafe work is absolutely not an option. That means working with a mover that has a proven method for moving sensitive equipment and information and the right people to get it done. Ask about how they plan to pack your most delicate assets, how they've fared with similar moves, and make sure you’re confident they truly understand the stakes.Looking for the Right Mover? Try Two Small MenWe like to think we’re pretty good at office moves — and our clients would agree. Every item is accounted for. Every box gets to the right room. Every piece of furniture is packed safely and securely. How To Get a Hassle-Free Halifax Move

Are you moving in Halifax? If you’d like it to go smoothly, you’ll want to keep these crucial tips in mind. Don’t underestimate the stress you can avoid simply by spreading a little of the work out earlier in the process. Phase One: Build Your Halifax Moving Plan The first thing you’ll want to do is take an inventory of everything you’ll be moving. Use discretion on whether to group things together, like “Kitchen Drawers” or list them separately, like “Dining Room Chairs”. You don’t want to get too lost in minutia, but you should be confident you’ve covered everything in small enough units that you can think about how to move them. Moving is an excellent occasion to also consider what you don’t need to take with you. Halifax has plenty of places to donate unwanted clothing, furniture, or other items. And if you get lucky with a weekend of good weather, you could also try a garage sale. Moving to or away from Dalhousie, Mount Saint Vincent, or King’s? Halifax is known as a university town, and there will always be a churn of students looking for the essentials. You’ll also want to consider what you do want to move — but will be difficult. Do you have anything fragile like an aquarium? That might require some very special arrangements that mean you need to find a specialized Halifax mover. Either way, as you begin creating your lists, you’ll get an idea of how many boxes or other storage containers you’ll need. Start collecting or buying them now. And if you’re getting help from a Halifax moving company, you’ll want to get your booking in early — they might be able to help with the materials, too. Phase Two: Start Working! Obviously, you still do have to live in your home until the move, so start by packing things and rooms you don’t actively use. This can be a guest room, or books, or ornamental items, for instance. As you get closer to the date, you’ll be able to comfortably pack more and more — just make sure you’re done before moving day. Those last items have a way of taking a lot longer than you expect. Meanwhile, while you might want to hold off on a full deep clean until you’ve moved a lot of your things out, it’s worth taking some time to go through some minor repairs for an extra layer of assurance. If you find out with a week left that fixing some drywall or mending a broken window latch is going to require additional supplies, it’s a lot better than if you’ve got an inspection in a couple of hours. Phase Three: The Move — And the Post-Move The best way to get through moving day is to have a moving company on your side. Because just getting your stuff out of the old place and into the new is hard enough — but you’re also looking at a long process of unpacking and reconstructing furniture, as well as the final, comprehensive clean of the old place. Especially if you’ve got a damage deposit on the line. You’re going to have a whole lot less stress if you can deal with these obligations without being too concerned with the physical move itself. So, when you’re moving within, to, or from Halifax, give Two Small Men a call. We’re a professional moving company ready for any Halifax move! Get a quote today and look forward to a no-hassle move. Your Office Move Doesn’t Have to be a Headache

If something goes wrong with a personal move? Well, it’s not going to be fun, but you’re at least only answering to yourself. And you can be forgiving of an old couch falling apart halfway down the stairs. At worst, you’ll just have to sit on something else for a few days. However, your office relocation needs to be planned carefully. You’ll make do.But when you’re responsible for an office? You’ve got to transfer a money-making machine such that it's ready to continue making money when you're done. Often, there are multiple interacting mission-critical physical objects you have to move. Desks, for people to work at. Computers that enable the value your company creates. Tools and supplies that employees rely on. Physical paperwork documenting vital steps in your process. When Something Goes Wrong in an Office Move, You Can’t Just Make DoA laptop gets damaged during the move. Boxes of paperwork get mislabelled and dropped off in the wrong departments. Your meticulously organized drawers get mixed up. Crucial tools just plain get lost. A desk loses a leg or two and will no longer stand up.When this happens in an office move, you can’t necessarily just make do. Any piece of your overall machine that is unable to perform its duty means money is lost. Every day.Your employee can’t sit at a broken desk with a laptop that won’t turn on. Time lost searching for last year’s reports because they ended up forgotten in a box that was never opened isn’t something you can get back. And you don’t want to spend half a day tracking down power cables or mismatched peripherals.Let’s not even start about the panic that’d follow being unable to find a big physical folder of sensitive client information. No, when you’re moving an office, you’re under pressure to get it done flawlessly, with minimal downtime. When the staff walk into the new office, on day one, they need to be able to resume exactly where they left off. Anything less is a loss. How To Get A Great Office MoveThe best way to get through an intimidating office move? It’s simple. You go with a moving company that knows how it’s done. You’ve got plenty of time to get the move done while they are at school anyhow.Keep Your Summer Social Calendar Open!By getting your move done in the spring, you’re setting yourself up for a more relaxing summer. Rather than spend significant time in the summer months turning down invites because you’ve got moving planning to do, you’ve got it all behind you.Likewise, a comfortable spring move means that by the summer, your new home should be all set up and ready to go should you want to entertain yourself. And if you’ve got a summer vacation planned, you don’t have to stress about working around that either. You Can Beat Peak Moving SeasonBy moving in the spring, you’re still able to take advantage of the off-peak season should you book a mover. You’ll find that your moving company will have greater availability before their summer months fill up, and you might even find prices just a little lower. Again, if you’ve got the option, spring can be the best time of year to move.Speaking of Moving Companies…Want a hand getting your belongings moved into your new place? Almost everyone’s had or been a part of a DIY move. The benefit’s obvious: it’s cheap. And if you already have access to a truck? You’re spending your time planning for the move — and buying moving supplies you’ll use once is not free at all You’re spending your time in the weeks leading to the move packing all your possessions and living around all those boxes You’re calling in favours and trying to wrangle friends and family to lend a hand You’re spending the entire moving day itself moving Even after all that, you’re not a moving expert: you’re risking damage and inefficiency dragging the day on and on A moving quote might seem expensive the first time you see it. The Downsizing Series Part 5: Kitchen essentials

Kitchens are one area of any household where clutter can really take hold. Whether gifts, impulse buys, or things you got for that one specific dish that one time, people tend to end up with a lot of kitchen tools. The truth is, most people don’t actually use those single-purpose kitchen utensils nearly enough to make them worth the space they take up.If you really do make a ton of melon balls each week, then sure, keep the melon baller. Otherwise, here’s a quick list of what’s actually essential and what can go while decluttering your kitchen.KnivesThere are three basic knives you need. A chef’s knife covers a huge number of cutting needs alone, whereas a paring knife can step in when you don’t quite need that bulk, and a serrated bread knife helps deal with not only bread, but other softer foods you need sliced. These can cover pretty much all the cutting tasks you may have. At most, add a filet or boning knife if you eat a lot of fish or will need to cut around bones, and keep a honing steel to maintain sharpness. But all those special peelers and single-fruit slicers? Just use a knife.Pots and PansA modern non-stick skillet is a must-have for general cooking. If you’re willing to put a little effort into upkeep, then a cast iron pan is a tremendously useful as well. Other than that, a stainless steel saucepan and a stockpot will handle the rest of your general cooking needs. You’ll also want a baking pan, but you may be surprised to hear you can often get by with just the one. You can build compartments with foil if you want to keep things separate — or can purchase cheap, single-use baking pans for special occasions. If you’ve accumulated extras over the years, a downsizing move is a great opportunity to sift through and keep only the best. How often do you really need two of any of these at the same time?Kitchen UtensilsBesides knives, you’ll need a fair few other things — but probably not so many as you think. Again, you really only need one of each, but this is a prime area where people tend to have multiples. Maybe you had a few when you first moved into your current home or lost a few and bought a new set. You’ll want a spoon, a spatula, a whisk, and a can opener. Again, if you’ve got four spatulas, which one do you always reach for first? Leave the others behind. And the RestUnless you want to burn your hands, make sure you’ve got a good pair of oven mitts. A set of three differently sized mixing bowls are essential for a wide variety of prep work, and measuring cups and spoons are vital tools.A strainer and a cutting board round out the list of a minimalist, downsized kitchen. The items on this list are the things it’s hard to substitute for. Again, if you have particular tastes that mean yes, you do use that food dehydrator, and no, you couldn’t just use the oven on low instead, then by all means hold onto it.But by stripping your kitchen down to these essentials, you’ll wonder how you ever managed with drawers stuffed full of utensils you never use.Need a hand getting there? Two Small Men has a downsizing service you may find useful! And when you’re ready for the move itself, we can get all your downsized possessions to your new home, safe and sound. Learn more here. It’s one thing to downsize as an adult who’s either made a lifestyle choice to do so or understands it as an economic necessity. But when you have children, you wouldn’t be wrong to be a little apprehensive about breaking the news and making the move. Read More
