What Kind of Boxes Should I Use for My Move?

Spring is finally on the horizon here in Canada, and that means moving season is also swiftly approaching! If you have an upcoming move to start planning for, knowing what your packing supply needs are is a great place to start. In today’s blog post, we’ll tell you all about the main box options you should have on hand when packing up your household.

The 2-Cube

This is probably the box that you picture when you think about moving boxes. It’s 2 cubic feet, and there’s a reason it’s so popular! This box is on the smaller side, making it easy to carry. It’s great for heavy items like books, canned goods, and so on. This is not the only box you’ll want to have around, because we always recommend moving with zero or very few loose items. That includes appliances that may be too big to fit in the 2-cube, which brings us “squarely” to our next suggested box…

The 4-Cube

You guessed it: the 4-cube is 4 cubic feet! We recommend this box for oddly shaped or large items such as kitchen appliances, stuffed toys, pillows, etc. It’s important to try to fill this box with lighter-weight items, because it’s easy to accidentally overfill a 4-cube with heavy items that will make it very difficult to move from house to house or even room to room.

The Wardrobe Box

Wardrobe boxes can be the unexpected hero of your move after a long, stressful day. They’re exactly what they sound like; a box designed to hold your clothes! They even come with a sturdy bar so you can hang your clothes up — so they’re effectively a portable closet. When you use a wardrobe box, if you don’t feel like unpacking at the end of the day, you can rest assured that your clothes will still be wrinkle-free the next morning. Get that good night’s sleep instead of an unpacking all-nighter!

The Dish Barrel

The dish barrel is one of the sturdiest, most secure boxes you’ll ever encounter. It comes with a cell kit so you can individually protect your dishes, and it’s absolutely the safest way to move your dishes to your new home! What more can we say – we highly recommend a dish barrel or two for your move!
